Apple HomePod VS Amazon Echo VS Google Home: I have written before that Apple tends to wait before launching any product to the market. They boil their magic soup in its secret lab while keeping an eye on what's happening to the "same" recipe their competitor launched earlier. It happened before and it happened now. Yes, I'm talking about Apple HomePod.
Let's Talk About Amazon Echo First
Amazon Echo (or just Echo for short) is the oldest smart speaker (released November 6, 2014) run by (discontinued) Fire OS. The devices connect to the voice-controlled intelligent personal assistant service Alexa, which respond to the name "Alexa". In the default mode, the device continuously listens to all speech, monitoring for the wake word to be spoken.
Echo device offers weather from AccuWeather and news from a variety of sources, including local radio stations, iHeartRadio, NPR, and ESPN from TuneIn. Echo can play music from the owner's Amazon Music accounts and has built-in support for the Pandora and Spotify streaming music services and has support for IFTTT and Nest thermostats. Echo can also play music from streaming services such as Apple Music, and Google Play Music from a phone or tablet. Echo maintains voice-controlled alarms, timers, shopping and to-do lists and can access Wikipedia articles. Echo will respond to your questions about items in your Google calendar. It also integrates with Yonomi, Philips Hue, Belkin Wemo, SmartThings, Insteon, and Wink.Additionally, integration with the Echo is in the works for Countertop by Orange Chef, Sonos, Scout Alarm, Garageio, Toymail, MARA, and Mojio. Questions like "Who is Kim Kardashian?" are answered by reading the first few lines of the corresponding Wikipedia article. ~Wikipedia
Wow… That's a lot!
Let's see what's Google Home is:
Released on November 4, 2016; 14 months ago in the United States. Google home can understand voice command by collaborating with Google Assistant to run any tasks it understands. Allowing users to listen to music, control playback of videos or photos, or receive news updates entirely by voice.
Google Home devices also have integrated support for home automation. Home Automation involves the control and automation of lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and security, as well as home appliances such as washer/dryers, ovens or refrigerators/freezers). All this involving the use of WIFI.
So HomePod is:
Basically all of the above. Bye! 😀
But really, this is what its official website says:
HomePod is a powerful speaker that sounds amazing and adapts to wherever it’s playing. It’s the ultimate music authority, bringing together Apple Music and Siri to learn your taste in music. It’s also an intelligent home assistant, capable of handling everyday tasks — and controlling your smart home. HomePod takes the listening experience to a whole new level. And that’s just the beginning.
That's What Apple Does Best
Apple waits, polishes and strengthen its product's inside out, studying the trials and errors its competitors make, and then BAM… new overpriced product (with great design and long durability) hits its loyal fans, right in the face!
Wait, overpriced? At least to me, it is… let's compare the highest price of the three of them.
- Amazon Echo Spot: 130 USD
- Google Home Max: 399 USD
- Apple HomePod: 349 USD*
*This is its 1st Gen, I bet the next gen will be more expensive than this one.
IF I have the budget, I will go for HomePod or two Echoes, so they can talk to each other.
